VEMA is believed to be the first totally voluntary 1st response unit of its kind in South Africa. As a 1st response unit the VEMA members respond to any medical emergency call and stabilise the patients prior to the arrival of an ambulance. VEMA is autonomous of all emergency services and other organisations. All members are registered either with the HPCSA or DMISA relevant to their qualification.
