Our Vision

To provide a high quality, rapid volunteer-based initial response, by trained providers, to medical emergencies, or trauma within the Upper Highway and surrounding areas as a prelude to the arrival of full-time Emergency Services so that patient outcome is improved.

Voluntary Emergency Medical Assistance (VEMA) is a registered non-profit and public benefit organization operating in the Upper Highway area. VEMA provides high quality, rapid, volunteer-based initial medical first response service. We ensure trained providers, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, for medical emergencies, trauma and other incidents within the Upper Highway area and surrounding areas, as a prelude to the arrival of full-time emergency services, so that patient outcome is improved. The organization is officially recognized by the private and state ambulance services as well as eThekwini Fire and Metro Police services. We are registered with the KZN-EMS licensing body as a first-response service.

As a voluntary community organization we guarantee that any call will be answered, with dispatch of appropriate providers. Should none of the VEMA members (who are volunteers, using their own personal vehicles) be available, the call will be transferred to the nearest appropriate EMS service.

VEMA is an official Mobiclaw Operations Partner and has an SLA with ER24, but will assist and support all services. Once patients are stabilized VEMA ensures that they are transported to the most appropriate Emergency Facility by the appropriate emergency medical services, whether private or state.
